As Senior Director, Matthew uses his school leadership experience to support partners in implementing innovative systems and structures and building capacity at the district, CMO, and school level. An experienced educator, Matthew most recently worked with TNTP as a Partner on the client team, where he helped lead efforts to recruit, select and train school leaders for districts, specifically heading up the SanFranciscoPLUS program. Through PLUS, Matthew led a team to coach school leaders on developing and retaining irreplaceable teachers, strengthening a school’s instructional culture, and understanding how to use data to improve student outcomes. He also worked closely with district officials to build internal capacity to develop sustainable leadership pathways.
Prior to TNTP, Matthew worked as an Instructional Support Leader with Chicago Public Schools on Chicago’s South Side, specifically working with school leaders around management practices and teacher effectiveness. Matthew also worked as a teacher and a school leader for eleven years in the South Bronx in New York City, overseeing the high school in a school that served 6-12th grades, where over 90 percent of students qualified for free and reduced-price lunch. Matthew started his career in education as a New York City Teaching Fellow, teaching 7th grade English.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts in Secondary English Education from New York University, and a Masters of Education in School Leadership from Columbia University’s Teachers College.
